Instagram Beginnings
When I first heard of Instagram I honestly did not think much of it. All I knew about Instagram was that you posted a photo to it. My two teenagers kept bugging me to get an account. I kept telling them I did not need another social media site. It wasn’t as if I had a lot of social media sites. At the time I only had a Twitter account and a WordPress.com blog with my girlfriends. My teenagers didn’t let up. They just couldn’t believe I did not want to join Instagram. Both of them kept saying, “Mom, you are into photography. This is the site for you. You love taking photos.” On May 14, 2013, I gave into their pressure and created an account on Instagram.
On that day I uploaded the following 3 photos:
Learning Instagram Hashtags
I started learning about the various hashtags. There are so many. I got my first like that wasn’t my teenagers. I was like WOW this is pretty cool! So I took more photos and uploaded them. Continued to receive likes. I then downloaded some photography apps to edit the photos I took with my IPhone. I was hooked! My kids thought their mom had lost her mind. I had uploaded so many photos in one month than they had in one year. I started receiving comments from other IGers from all over the world. Over time I had all these virtual IG friends. Then came the IG groups that started featuring my work. HOLY COW! This is awesome. There are so many talented folks on Instagram sharing their passion (young and old).

Here is a sampling of some of my work. You will notice I am all over the place. I love photographing everything. While at the same time I love editing a photo and changing it entirely (e.g. selfies)
Conclusion
If you enjoy sharing your work and don’t have an account then I highly recommend you do. Instagram is a wonderful community of some very talented individuals.
