Story behind “Together”

I lost my mother to breast cancer.  As a result, I created the photo “Together” to honor her memory.  My mother, who was my best friend, fought bravely against the horrible disease, known as Breast Cancer, for 15 years.

She was so strong during her battle.  Mom always seemed to bounce back from every setback.  Therefore, during her final months I was in denial.  I hung to the belief that she would bounce back yet again.

Every October I wore the Breast Cancer bracelet (as seen in below photo) in support of my mother and anyone else that had been touched by Breast Cancer.  The words “Together We Can Make A Difference” were stamped into the heart-shaped charm of bracelet.

Nearly two months after mom passed I was contemplating on how to honor her.  As I sat there playing with charm of my Breast Cancer bracelet I read the words “Together We Can Make A Difference”.  An epiphany happened which resulted in the photo you see below.  The hands belong to my daughter and son.  My daughter wore the Breast Cancer bracelet.  To symbolize “Together” I had them hold hands and arranged the breast cancer symbol.  What better way to honor my mother by using her grand kids hands to show unity in our fight against breast cancer.

The photo resides on the mantle of my fireplace as a constant reminder to not give up and to stand up to cancer.  I strongly believe that “Together We Can Make A Difference”.
