Rainforest Hidden Secrets
This digital art piece “Rainforest Hidden Secrets” was created for the ShiftArt July Digital Art Challenge. The theme for this challenge was “Amazon Rainforest“. As usual, the ShiftArt group supplied all the images relating to the Amazon Rainforest. The final piece had to consist of three of the images supplied, one image had to be the main focus, in addition, to using one of the grunge texture backgrounds supplied by Caroline Julia Moore.
Most noteworthy about this challenge was the opportunity provided by the ShiftArt team to donate to World Wildlife Fund when you submitted your art. The ShiftArt teams initial goal was to raise $500. As a result of all the artists donating to the cause when submitting their art they raised $1043. Amazing how all artists came together for such a wonderful cause.
Arsenal
Out of all the images provided I chose 8.
- Waterfall (main subject)
- Flying Macaw
- Macaw hanging upside down
- Two jaguar photos
- Orangutan
- Grunge texture background (CJM)
- Grunge overlay from ongoing stash
Before I began processing, I selected all the images first. From the beginning, I knew the waterfall image was going to be the main focus of the piece. I then placed the animals in various locations in and around the waterfall. Used different blend modes and layer masks to hide the animals in the forest and waterfall. Applied the grunge texture background (bottom left) with a layer mask to reveal some of the image below. The other grunge overlay (bottom right) was applied with a blend mode set to Multiply, in addition to a layer mask to expose some of the image beneath.
