Creative Process ~ the “Imaginative” Approach
The piece “Haunted ~ Tragic Story of Rebecca Tragrom” was created for my assignment in my online AWAKE course by Sebastian Michaels.
For this assignment I had to:
- Write down a random list of words
- From the list choose 1 or more words and put them together
- Locate image(s) that would tie in with the words chosen
- Write a paragraph about the scene
- Create the scene using the images chosen
Chosen words
Ever since I started down this photo artistic journey I have dreamed of creating something with an old, abandoned house and make it look haunted with a ghost somewhere in the photo. So it does not come as a surprise that the four words I chose were haunted, ghost, surreal and abandoned.
Images Used in Piece
First, I browsed my image inventory in search of the old abandoned house I took back in 2012, which I knew would make the perfect haunted house. The photo of the house did not have enough clouds and I knew I needed to get rid of the power lines and the other building to the right. As a result, I chose the covered bridge and cabin for the grassy areas. Chose the cloud photo to add additional clouds in the background. Followed by the other two photos with the trees for additional interest in the background. For the ghost I chose the photo I took of my daughter in my wedding dress. Finally, added the grunge overlay for added texture.
All photos are ones I took, except for the clouds and the grunge overlay (bottom left).
Haunted ~ Tragic Story of Rebecca Tragrom
“In the sleepy town of Osterburg, PA. at the end of Lallibrooke Lane stands an abandoned house that has seen better days. This once grand house was the home of newlyweds, Rebecca and Jamie Tragrom. On the night of their wedding, in 1863, Jamie went off to fight in the war where he died in combat near the town of Gettysburg. The news of Jamie’s death did not set well with Rebecca. As a matter of fact, she did not believe he died. She believed Jamie would still return to her one day soon. Because she believed so strongly, she sat in her upstairs bedroom window in her wedding dress looking off into the distance for any sign of Jamie every night. She sat in the window every night until the day she died of a broken heart at the age of 100.
To this day locals avoid going near the house at night because they say you can still see Rebecca sitting in her upstairs window waiting for Jamie to return.”
